Star Reach is a 46' Irwin ketch
. She has meaning behind her name: First, a quote from Robert Browning,
Ah that man's reach should exceed his grasp or what's a heaven for! "Reach" is a nautical term indicating the relative direction the wind is coming from, and "Star" refers to the Morning Star, Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, who is the Admiral of our crew.
We have sailed the
Star Reach to the Fiji Islands with stops in Hilo and the Marshall Islands.
Star Reach had two permanent crew, Captain Daniel and First Mate Mary Ann. We had other crew on various legs of our journeys and as visitors come to spend time with us. We left on April 3, 2004 and arrived in Fijian waters on August 6, 2004. This website contains a record of their journey in several chapters as well as their on-going life in the countryside of the USA after making many friends in Fiji.
